What is the Tubakunde Project?
Tubakunde is a Kinyarwanda word meaning ’Let us love them’. The Tubakunde project is the vision of Pam Hajnasrollah and Nathan Rulinda and aims to address the problem of the enormous number of orphaned babies in and around Musanze in the Northern Province of Rwanda. Tubakunde house will take in around eighteen babies and give them the care they require, but it also aims to assess the child’s needs and where possible to rehome these babies back in the community. Another of the project’s objectives is to guide and support mothers to help them to look after their own and other children. The planned day-care centre will be a vital link with the local community to help to monitor each individual case.
The children, for whom this project is so essential, are particularly vulnerable and they need to be nurtured, loved, valued, protected and respected as unique individuals. There is currently a whole generation of children who exist without parents and a family structure due to the ravages of war, death, disease, poverty and malnutrition. Ultimately the care provided should come from people who have been trained and equipped for the task.
At the heart of this project is the belief in the importance of “family”. It is vital that these children are eventually placed within family units that are appropriate to their needs and that will continue to provide the support structure necessary for a successful future. All care given must ensure their individual rights to life, liberty, health and physical development. They must receive their inalienable right to an education that will prepare them well for life within their own culture. Fundamentally, this project aims to rescue these children and place them in a position to reach their full potential. Tubakunde seeks to radiate the love of Christ throughout the community and target those most in need of love, care and protection.
Muraho! The site looks great, keep us posted with pics and updates!
I am sure that with all the vision and passion that both Pam and Nathan share they will achieve more than one project.
I have no doubt that the children of Tubakunde Project will be nurtured and achieve happiness.
I wish you well and God Bless you both.
